SD Veterans Home in Hot Springs Seeking Volunteers

On Friday, Dec 5th the SD Veterans Home in Hot Springs is in need of people to come down and decorate their auditorium for the holidays.  This is something the base has done for the last several years and the residents look forward to it each year.

If anyone wishes to go they can meet at the museum parking lot where the group will be leaving by 0845 and can get a ride if needed or they can meet  at the Veterans Home NLT 1000.  Anyone going straight there just ask for Larry at the main/center building. The more people we have the faster it goes and Larry usually buys pizza whenwe are done, probably around 1130.

Festival of Lights Parade

The Festival of Light Parade is held in Rapid City beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29. Event organizers still need volunteers to help with staging from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and crowd control from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteers must be at least 16.

Holiday Elves Needed!

City/County Alcohol & Drug Programs is in search of HOLIDAY ELVES to help with spreading cheer and decorations at the Lacrosse Street Facility located at 725 North Lacrosse Street Suite 300, Rapid City, SD, during the holidays. City/County will supply the decorations.  Decorating will take place the week of December 1-5 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Volunteers will need to be cleared with a basic background check.

Christmas Nights of Lights at Storybook Island

Volunteers for Christmas Nights of Light will assist in a variety of jobs, including selling cocoa, cookies, train tickets and or gift shop items. Volunteers may also take admission and keep a count of visitors.

Volunteers must be willing and able to count change, be trained to drive the train and follow rules set by Storybook Island Staff for each activity.

Spearfish Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a donation-based program that provides meals to elderly and home-bound residents.

Volunteers are needed to cover delivery routes  in Spearfish, SD, during the holidays.  Meals on Wheels delivers Monday through Friday but will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Dec. 25 and Dec. 31.

Hope Center Winter Collection and Distribution

The Hope Center is collecting thick, neutral colored scarves, mittens, hats and socks of all sizes.

*The Hope Center may also need volunteers for sorting and organizing donated winter items.

Christmas at the Mission

     On Dec. 13, the Sturgis Mission will take donated food and gifts to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation where they will be distributed. The Sturgis Mission is seeking volunteers to travel to Pine Ridge to assist in the event. Volunteers will work in pairs serving a meal and handing out gifts.

Youth & Family Services Gift Wrapping

YFS is looking for volunteers to help with their gift wrapping booth from December 5-24th. Shifts for this year are available in four to five hour increments, Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. & Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The booth is located in the Rushmore Mall, across the hall from Café Court.  Sign-up with your coworkers, friends, your club/association group, spouse, and your children who are over the age of 13.

Yellow Bike Program Needs Volunteers

The Yellow Bike Program and Reconditioned Bikes for Kids, Inc. is looking for volunteers to help work on bikes on Saturday, November 22, 2014.  We will be working on bikes to be donated to the Toys for Tots organizations.  This is our last push to get these bikes done.  We are hoping for a good turnout.
