LITERACY TUTOR
The Literacy Council of the Black Hills seeks literacy volunteers for adults, or in special cases teenagers, who have difficulties reading, writing, speaking, and/or listening at a basic literacy level (0 to approximately 8th grade level). Tutors work with students on a one-on-one basis and meet in public places of their choice and at times that are convenient for them. Literacy Tutor Training will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Black Hills Workshop.
MUSTANG ROUND-UP
Big Brothers Big Sisters needs volunteers for its Mustang Round-Up, a group mentoring program held from 1:05 p.m. to 3 p.m. on early release Wednesdays, at General Beadle Elementary School in Rapid City. The program provides a safe, structured, supervised and fun atmosphere for the students at General Beadle Elementary in kindergarten through 5th grade. The program offers a variety of organized gym games, arts and crafts, homework help and healthy snacks. Volunteers ages 16 and older are welcome.
USHERS
The Rapid City Performing Arts Center seeks volunteer ushers for the Black Hills Community Theater play “9 to 5” on Friday Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14. Volunteers are needed to usher, sell concessions and clean up after the show. These volunteers will get to watch the performance. Volunteers ages 15 and older are welcome
DIAPER DRIVE
Volunteers of America is asking for volunteers to help with its Mommy’s Closet Diaper Drive from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Family Thrift grocery story in Baken Park in Rapid City. Mommy’s Closet, a program of Volunteers of America, is a crisis resource provider that assists with emergency diapers and wipes for families in crisis. Volunteers can sign up to collect diapers in one-hour increments.
