Black Hills National Cemetery

Team Ellsworth
The need for volunteers for the Black Hills National Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend has been issued! For those of you who have done this in the past you already know how important this is and how it changes lives. For those who are new to Ellsworth or have not done this before the details are below.

Every year base personnel volunteer at the Black Hills National Cemetery for the three day Memorial Day weekend. Last year 184 BW personnel assisted over 13.5K visitors to this National shrine. They directed traffic, manned a command post, provided rides for the elderly/handicapped and most importantly assisted family members as they paid tribute to their loved ones interned there. This is a national cemetery and as such visitors from across the country could and do come here. This is one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences you will ever have as not only are you assisting those who have lost loved ones, you are paying tribute to those veterans who came before us.

I have attached an excel sheet with the dates/times and positions open Copy of BHNC Memorial Day slots-2014. I have also included a brief detail of the jobs as well as a map of the area BHNC duties.  The cemetery is off of exit 34 just before Sturgis. On Sat/Sun the uniform will be ABU and on Monday it will be Service Dress. To volunteer please email me so I can add you to the list on the day/time/job you would like. Email is easier as this way I can keep a record of everything, john.hopple.1@us.af.mi. Thank You in advance and looking forward to another great event staffed by the Air Forces finest!

Rapid City Clean Up Day is happening on Saturday, 26 April 2014. It’s a day set-aside by the mayor of Rapid City, as a “spring cleaning” day, to clean public areas such as parks, roadways and greenways throughout the city.

The clean-up will consist of smaller groups covering different sections.  Family members such as spouses and children are welcome, since parks and safer locations are be available to clean up. Trash bags will be provided, black for trash and clear for recyclables.  You can bring your own gloves if you would like, but some sort of plastic or latex gloves will be provided.
