Mentoring Persons on Federal Probation

The U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services in South Dakota, in an effort to reduce recidivism and increase pro-social connections in the lives of person’s under supervision, has an exicting and rewarding opportunity to contribute to creating a safer and more just community in the Black Hills.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to meet with person’s under supervision for a minimum of 3-5 hours a month. These interactions can encompass a range of activities from fishing and hiking, to offering support to the person under supervision as they apply for employment or search for housing. You will work with the person under supervision and their Probation officer in a collaborative way to increase their ability to remain lawfully self-managed. By your very presence in their lives you can make a long-lasting, beneficial, impact!

If you are interested, U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services is required to perform a background check (at no cost to you). If you have previously been on Federal or State Probation or Parole we can work with you to see if you qualify to be a mentor.
