Youth & Family Services is looking for volunteers to sort through the donations that are received Monday-Friday between 8am-4pm. This opportunity involves sorting, organizing and cleaning of items that can be used by YFS programs and the families YFS serves.  Training and guidance is provided by YFS staff.

Check-in Desk Volunteer

 

The YMCA seeks front line volunteers to provide friendly, professional and custerymcaextraordinary customer service to all members, potential members and visitors who use the YMCA. Volunteers are responsible for checking-in members, assigning locker keys, folding towels and other tasks as needed.

Front Desk Receptionist

The Rapid City Vet Center seeks volunteers to serve as front desk receptionists over the summer (through the beginning of September). The Front Desk Receptionist will welcome  Veteran clients, answer phones and direct calls, and perform light clerical duties. This would be an opportunity for a volunteer to become well-versed in resources and benefits available to Veterans.

A prospective volunteer would need to complete a brief volunteer orientation at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center, along with privacy and confidentiality training online, prior to beginning their volunteer work. Subsequently, all volunteer hours would be at the office in downtown Rapid City.

Hours are flexible and are needed during the following time frames:

  • Monday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Thursday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Friday: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Science and Engineering Fair Judges


Interested in seeing first-hand the creative minds of our next generation of scientists and engineers? Register to be a judge for the 64th Annual High Plains Regional Science & Engineering Fair at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Tuesday, April 9, 2019! The fair is open to 6th-12th grade students who showcase projects in biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, and engineering. All judges will need to arrive in the Christensen Hall of Fame by 8 am for a briefing before judging begins at 8:30 am. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Judging forms will need to be turned in by 1 pm.
