Feeding South Dakota is looking for volunteers to help with the Thanksgiving Giveaway event on November 21st 2020.

Key Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks to help with the Thanksgiving Giveaway. The distribution will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 21st. This opportunity includes working outdoors in all weather conditions. Volunteer duties may include:
• Directing traffic and greeting the public
• Distributing tickets to guests receiving meals
• Loading food into vehicles and ensuring a friendly farewell

Support/Training: Please plan for inclement weather. Feeding South Dakota encourages you to dress in layers and wear comfortable clothing, your CDC-recommended cloth face covering or disposable mask and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift. Volunteers working around traffic will be given additional safety gear to wear. Upon your arrival, you will sign our volunteer waiver form and have your temperature taken by one of our staff.

Qualifications:
• Ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
• Ability to lift about 10 to 40 pounds
• Work will be outdoors in winter weather.

Please dress accordingly to stay warm. Water and coffee will be available.

Age Requirements: This position will be working outdoors in a parking lot around vehicle traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older. Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. We welcome you to volunteer with friends, family or co-workers.

NOTE: This opportunity is NOT at the Feeding South Dakota warehouse. You will need to go to the site of the Rapid City Thanksgiving Giveaway located at 800 San Francisco St. Park at the Central States Fairground office and walk across the street to the Knights of Columbus building (it is white with blue trim). Volunteer assignments will be made shortly before 7 a.m.

Awareness & Outreach Committee

Black Hills Regional Homeless Coalition |

The Black Hills Regional Homeless Coalition is working to raise awareness about the impact of homelessness in the community. BHRHC is seeking members for their awareness committee; a year-round awareness of homeless issues and efforts. This includes website, Facebook, media presence, PSAs and bi-yearly poverty simulations. The Awareness Committee meets on the 1st Monday of every month at 1 pm.

Donation Desk Volunteer- Mommy’s Closet

Volunteers of America is seeking volunteers to help at the Mommy’s Closet donation desk from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Any amount of time is appreciated! Mommy’s Closet is a free cirisis provider that lends a helping hand to moms, dads, and families with children under the age of five. Mommy’s Closet provides assistance by supplying necessities to help take care of babies and children. Volunteer opportunity requires a background check. The Team Ellsworth Spouse Club (TESC) manages and operates the B-One Thrift Shop and is looking for volunteers. Anyone 12 years and older can volunteer. Volunteers are welcome to either assist in sorting and/or pricing on Mondays between 9AM-1PM or to help during business hours which are currently Tuesdays and Thursdays 9AM-1PM. Volunteer sorting days will be posted on the “B-One Thrift Store” Facebook page. Individual Volunteers do not need to sign up in advance. Meal Prep Volunteer- Fork Real Community Café

Fork Real Café is seeking volunteers to assist with preparing meals by chopping, cooking and assembling on Fridays and Saturdays.
Fork Real Café is a place where anyone can come to enjoy a home cooked meal in a dignified setting, regardless of their ability to pay. Route Driver Assistant- Feeding South Dakota

Each day, Feeding South Dakota goes to grocery stores throughout Rapid City picking up donated food as part of our Retail Pickup Program. Volunteers are needed to assist with the collection of these donations on Wednesday mornings. This volunteer position would help the driver pick up and unload the food donations.
